Regarding SEO...there are a couple ways that it impacts; I'll comment on them below:
----------------
Q&A Content: Each question creates a new content page, and those pages are optimized for search....so that anyone else with a similar/same question are drawn to your site. We've seen with our customers that they have YEARS of consistent organic traffic growth through this with the new/valuable Q&A content that is created....you can see some numbers here based on real experience: http://answerbase.com/search-engine-traffic.aspx
----------------
Link Building: In concert with the above, as questions are answered on your platform you're able to crosslink to your other existing content with "follow links"....if you have supporting content in other posts that you can cross reference....therefor passing the "SEO Juice" between your pages in order to improve rank. You can have those "follow links" permissions set per user...so you can enable that for the users/staff that makes sense...and have them do that link building for you
----------------
Content Marketing Insights: Our clients use their user-generated Q&A content analytics/engagement to help determine what more in-depth articles to post about in the future and determine what posts will be most engaging and draw the most traffic. As they tracked the engagement for a post and recognized it as "high demand," they then created a more detailed post about that and expanded that blog post into an article covering that topic in depth.
