In order to create your own Facebook Application and use it on Answerbase, you should open two internet browser tabs/windows. In one tab/window, sign into your Answerbase administration site. In the other tab/window, sign into your Facebook account.
You should start with Facebook, by going to https://developers.facebook.com after you have logged into your site. If you have not done that before, you will have to register as a developer. You can do this by selecting the "Register as a Developer" item on the "Apps" menu. After you have registered, click on the "Create a New App" item on the "Apps" menu.
Enter the application name that you would like to use in the ‘Display Name’ field, select a category, and click on the ‘Create App’ button.
You’ll be brought to a new page that asks you to complete a security check. Complete that security check and click the ‘Submit’ button.
The next page should present you with a page where you can go down the left hand navigation, one step at a time, and submit all of the information to about your application and preferences.
In the "Settings" section, be sure to enter a contact email and add the "Web Site" option as a platform, specifying your site's URL. For improved security, select the "Advanced" tab and enter this value in the "Valid OAuth Redirect URIs": http://[yoursitedomain]/Account/ThirdPartyLoginCallback. After you’ve completed that information, you can click the ‘Save Changes’ button and save your information.
Finally, don't forget to make the app public in the "Status & Review" section. Keep your Facebook tab/window open, since you’ll need some of that information to save into Answerbase.
Now go to your Answerbase administration site in your other tab/window and click on the “System Settings” link in the main navigation. Once you’re in the System Settings area, select the “Third Party Login” option to view your settings for enabling Facebook login and registration for your users.
In the Third Party Login area, you are able to turn Facebook login/registration “on” or “off”. Make sure that option is turned “on” to enable that for your users.
Under the area that is titled “Use your own Facebook Application”, you’re going to need to enter the information from the Facebook Application that you just created. Go to your open Facebook tab/window and find the “App ID” and “App Secret”. Copy those items, one at a time, and bring them back to paste into the related fields in your Answerbase administration area.
Once you have filled out both of the fields, click the “Save” button on the bottom of the page in your Answerbase administration area and you’re done!
