When it comes to ecommerce SEO...you're going to want to effectively track and monitor how you're performing. We recently talked to an agency who claimed to be an ecommerce SEO agency but when they sent their case study over.....they had a list of keywords that they considered "wins"...and all of them said they were ranking position 1, 2, and 3. But...when we actually did a search....we did find that they had a good position for a traditional SEO list....but the problem is that listing has been buried under (1) 30 results of "Popular Products" and (2) "People Also Asked" questions related to the products. See a sample of the result here where the first traditional "SEO Result" is absolutely buried and irrelevant in the new world we're all living in when it comes to ecommerce results:
There is a huge problem here.....the world has not caught up with the fact that the world has completely changed when it comes to ecommerce SEO. It's changed because of the "Popular Products" tables....and it's changed because Google has incorporated the Helpful Content System into their core ranking systems...and forecasted that they will forever be optimizing towards helpful, reliable, people first content that contains EEAT (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness). You need to make sure that your SEO audits, reporting, focus and strategy is aligned with what ecommerce SEO looks like moving forward....not what worked in the past.
SEO experts are working to catch up on these things, for example Aleyda Solis recently mentioned this in one of her LinkedIn posts....see what she said here:
It's communicating exactly what we showed in the above example.....just because an outdated tool/audit says you are positioned well, it may be completely irrelevant to what is actually going to drive new traffic and sales.
We recommend that you Schedule a Free Ecommerce SEO Consultation and we'll work to connect you with tools and agencies that can help you out....so you're able to effectively audit, optimize your site and also track the results. A couple things you can do within Google Search Console which we'll note below.
Merchant Listings Visibility
If you look in search console and go under "Shopping" on the left nav...you'll see an option for "Merchant Listings" as you see here:
You'll see a report similar to the below (hopefully all green)....where it will show you the number of valid and invalid product pages you have eligible for Merchant Listings....see sample here of a customer we worked with in order to turn all of the red green (again, schedule and we can help you out for free when we can).
The next step is to see if there is a gap in the number of products you have and the number you're seeing in that report, you can schedule a call with us to help or we did write a post about some things to consider and be aware of there.
Merchant Listings Performance Report
When you're in your search console...you'll notice a "Search Appearance" tab which will show you how you're performing for Merchant Listings with impressions, clicks, click-through rate, and position...the things you're normally looking for but it focuses on these "Popular Products" and Merchant Listings results....see here:
Answerbase is here to help...so we really encourage you to Schedule a Call and we'll help when/where we can.....and if it's not something we can help with we partner with trusted agencies who know what they're doing with Ecommerce SEO in this new world of results/rankings....and present laser focused audits, tools, and services that focus on what actually matters.
