Answerbase can help you automate the creation and management of your ecommerce FAQs on your product and collection pages, but once you publish the great content then we often get the question about how you apply "FAQ Schema" to product pages. Sometimes Agencies require it as part fo their SEO services, other times Agencies will say that it's not relevant since it's not an FAQ page or a government or health site (which are the only types of sites where FAQ Schema is relevant for now)...but given the number of times we run into this we wanted to help guide others who are not using Answerbase for their ecommerce FAQs on how this has been applied.
FAQs on Product Pages and Collection Pages
Typically FAQs will be displayed similar to this on a product page:

What they're looking to achieve there when they apply FAQ schema to the product page....is they can check on the Structured Data Checker and see this:

When you click into the details on that....you see each FAQ noted within the structured data as shown here:

You can see that each FAQ is identified with both the Question and Answer being easily recognized on the page. We'll dig into how they accomplished this below.
What Structured Data Type They Used for Their Product & Category Pages
They followed the "FAQPage" schema as you can see the documentation on that here:
https://developers.google.com/search/...
You'll notice that this is listed as the "Type" on the structured data checker that we showed you above...see it referenced here:

You can see that it picked it up and recognized it as being done effectively, where Google is able to recognize the entities on the page.
How It Looks in the Markup
You can see they implemented it within their page as shown here, where it references the FAQPage schema within the page. See here:

If you need help in trying to apply FAQ schema to your product or category pages, we encourage you to Schedule a Call with our team and we will help you effectively apply FAQs on your product pages and/or collection pages. As you know many "SEO Experts" have various opinions on what is best, what applies, what doesn't apply, etc.....that is why Answerbase just gives our customers the tools to implement what they prefer....but we have a lot of knowledge of different approaches and what the benefits/downsides may be to consider with each approach and we service a ton of ecommerce merchants (many more than your average individual agency)....so we look to be a guide to both our Agency partners as well as our ecommerce customers with the vast amount of data/results that we're able to track so they can make the best decisions.
"Other" Thoughts on "FAQ Schema" on Product Pages
You'll notice that when you do a search on "Applying FAQ Schema to Product Pages" you don't get many results speaking specifically to it, and you'll even find feedback that it's not applicable at all. See this post on Google's support community where you see some of this conflicting feedback....where this person notes that FAQPage schema is a "Web Page" level entity and therefor should not be applied at all.

Also....Google announced in 2023 that the only types of sites that FAQPage schema applies for as far as them showing FAQ rich snippets within their results....it only applies to health or government sites with a great reputation. See Google's guides on this here right at the top of their FAQPage documentation.

and then again in their Content Guidelines on when to use and when not to use it:

So again, should you apply FAQ schema to your product pages or product category pages? We encourage you to Schedule a Call and we'll be able to guide you appropriately based on what we've seen and our trusted Agency partners guide depending on each situation...and we'll make sure you're taken care of here.
