SEO Myth Busting: Is "Crawl Budget" a concern when it comes to SEO?
Sometimes we'll run into customers who have heard the term "Crawl Budget" and they wonder if they're running into any issues with crawl budget. The quick answer is....unless you have over a million pages on your site (which you probably don't)....Crawl Budget isn't a problem for you and you can set your mind at ease. It's one of these "SEO Myths" that go around and we're not sure why it gets so much traction.....but hear Google say the same thing when it comes to Google's ability to discover and crawl all of the pages on your site as you're publishing them.
In Google's own words (saying the same thing we say above):
So, in summary of what Google says above.....unless you have some kind of server/resource issues on your end that makes Google timid on crawling your site for fear of overloading it (which has nothing to do with a "crawl budget" issue as they say in the above video)......or if you don't have "millions of pages" on your site (let's just set the threshold to say over one million pages to be SUPER conservative).....you don't to worry about this thing called "Crawl Budget" at all....you just need to be focused on creating as much "people first valuable" content as you can and as long as you're doing that....Google is interested in both finding that as quickly as they can and rewarding that content if it is the best possible content to fulfill the search intent of searchers.
We know there are a lot of phrases that people throw around but often these phrases and terminology are misunderstood and misused, so we wanted to share that resource so you can understand a bit more about crawl budget and how Google actually manages things. The full video is super valuable...but just the first couple minutes of that clip speaks to most customers.
What has Answerbase seen?
Answerbase has always been focused on making sure that the customer's request for information can be satisfied by the best possible resource within a company and then published and distributed in the most efficient way to provide measurable value to future visitors who are finding the content both on your site and through search engines. As Google's continued to press towards rewarding "people first content" we've seen our methods drive notably more traffic to that content and lift to the product and services pages that content is helping to drive traffic to. For example, see what happened to the positions of Answerbase customers through Google's March 2024 updates to their core ranking systems as they integrated the Helpful Content System into many of their core ranking systems and signals.
We would love to talk through what Google's been up to and why, and are happy to schedule a call to educate you on what is going on and walk thorugh what Google has said and done on a number of these things. We've also collaborated with our agency partners on a White Paper called "Why The Present & Future of SEO is People-First Helpful Content” which does a deep dive on a lot of these things and would be a helpful resource if you're looking to get an overview.
We're happy to help and make sure you're equipped to survive and thrive in the future as everything steers towards genuine "people first content" that demonstrates E-E-A-T (Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, and Trustworthiness), reach out if there is anything else we can do for you.
